WHAT IS DESIGN?
Design comprises the shapes, lines, colors, patterns, molds, reliefs and other contours that are part of a product’s or object’s external appearance, making it more appealing to consumers.
WHAT IS DESIGN REGISTRATION?
It is the title granted by the State for a temporary period to protect these elements, preventing non-authorized third parties from using them.
Alternatively, the expressive creation of these elements may include copyrights, as the case may be.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF PROTECTING IT?
It gives the owner exclusive rights to the product’s or object’s external appearance, preventing third parties from using it.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT IS NOT PROTECTED?
When the external appearance is not protected by industrial design rights, it is subject to the free use in the market by third parties. Also, preventing its use will be a lot more difficult and expensive.
